Hello everyone, I've been working on this project for the last week and a half or so, at it's current state it's more of a prototype/proof-of-concept.  The full game I envision would have at least 20-30 more unique items, many more bosses, enemy types, and about 2 more playable characters.  I'd also like to eventually add other environmental tile sets, however art is a large undertaking for me since I'm not too great at pixel art just yet.

Please please forgive the placeholder art, I will be spending more time animating and working on the missing art moving forward.  I just wanted to release this for whatever audience I get, and hopefully you'll all enjoy what I have so far.

I'll appreciate any feedback/input,  but at the end of the day I want to try and make it as close to my vision as possible.  HOWEVER, feel free to let me know what you think please, I won't disregard anyone's input as I feel there will definitely be valuable ones.

The Game:

One night I had this idea that kept me up about a game where the player only gets to move their character around the map while every skill that character uses will be a randomly chosen one from it's load-out that charges up and casts without any input from the player.  This sounded like so much fun so I figured it'd be great if the element of stress from bullet-hell games were involved.  Then I decided to make a few items so the player could scale their characters infinitely, with enough items each run would feel so different from the last that you could always jump in and enjoy yourself with this game.

Controls:

Arrow Keys/ WASD for movement

Right Arraw/ "D" key for menu selection.

Credits:

My good friend Angell for the awesome hammer character and Nurse art/animations, they look amazing right, as well as input about the direction of the game that no doubt helped me along greatly.

Another buddy of mines named Rahil who helped me greatly with the random level generation.

0x72 - https://itch.io/profile/0x72 - who generously posted their beautiful dungeon tile set for public use, which I fell in love with and decided to keep for the prototype at least.

Hey Aleifr,

I've been searching online yet I can't find your updated Top Down RPG Template? Do you still have the template? Are you selling the template or are you able to upload a new version?

Much appreciated, thanks!

Same

was this made in gamemaker?

Could you sell this as a template to learn from?

(+1)

I could, and have thought about it, maybe if I see an actual demand for this as a template!

Ok, here's a demand...give me the player sprites...plz

that looks so cool, would love to pay for the learning!

I pretty like your game! Its is also a huge inspration for my own upcoming game. Take a look on my games if you want! Did you use the Godot-Engine?

This is really cool! I played it on stream and everyone agreed it looked really fun. The "placeholder" graphics are really good, better than I can draw for sure. The gameplay mechanic was confusing at first but once I learned what all the abilities do, it was really fun and unique! Combat feels satisfying even though I have little control over when my abilities activate, which is an impressive feat!

Can't wait to see where this goes, would especially love some basic sound effects in there to really make the impacts hammer harder! Also, would love some more explanation as to what the icons in the bottom left do, I never understood that.

Hopefully my early feedback was helpful!

By the way, I'm working on my own tower defense game, I'd love it if you could try it out and give me feedback like I gave you feedback! :) Thanks!

Yeah I figured the items would be quite confusing without an index to explain what each does, honestly I'm still in the process of figuring out how I want an item index to function and look.  I tried my best to draw them in a way that made sense at least except for the single orange grade item.  Really all that does is create an "explosion" where you kill an enemy that damages anything nearby.  As you stack it, the explosion would do more damage hence the rarity of its drop rate.  Everything else is pretty basic, movement speed, more coin drops, magnetize coins, skill charge rate increase, and increase health.
